Newry 2 Dromara Village 0

Newry City hosted Dromara Village in our first pre season friendly at the Showgrounds. Newry ran out 2-0 winners with both goals scored by Andy Graham. The Amateur League side provided Newry with a useful run out and it was a good opportunity for Gerry Flynn to blood some of his new summer signings (Conor Downey and Francis Murphy), as well as giving a run to a number of younger local players. Goalkeeper Donal Greene, from Dundalk, was also given the chance to impress.

Newry played some nice stuff in the first half, with new signing Downey prominent in midfield, but they were unable to find the cutting edge and the game was scoreless at the break. Young Andy McCoy replaced Cullen Feeney during the interval.

The second moiety saw Newry find some reward for their play and it was Andy Graham who fired us ahead with a close range finish. That was the signal for Flynn to replace Downey, Ferguson and Murphy with a trio of young locals; James Walker, Ruairi Devlin and Stephen McCabe. The youngsters performed well and it wasn't long before Andy Graham fired home his, and Newry's, second of the afternoon.
